the colours

blue, violet and pink

Blue

Blue is the colour of our intellect; it is mentally calming and soothing. Trustworthy and authoritative it is the colour of our parents and our teachers and of our own conscience – our inner authority. Blue will stimulate clear thought and communication allowing ideas t0 come ‘out of the blue’.

Negatively used blue can appear cold and unfriendly. It can be perceived as over authoritative and rigid. When ‘feeling blue’ we seek to emotionally detach ourselves and remain aloof.

Violet

Violet is the colour of mystery and dreams. It is noble, spiritual and luxurious – associated with royalty and high priests. It is the colour of imagination: the ability to transform one thing into another. Violet is protective – it can help us escape and be alone and it can help us sleep.

Overusing violet can mean we are detached from the world, from reality. We forget our physical needs and live in our imagination. Incorrectly used violet can also represent a lack of quality.

Pink

Pink is in the same place in the spectrum as red, but as a lighter colour it has associations of its own. It is the colour most associated with femininity unconditional love, like a parent’s love for a child. Pink is gentle, nurturing and physically soothing.

Too much pink can be smothering and physically draining, it can be child-like in its neediness. The wrong tone of pink can suggest that we are giving too much love to others and need to accept some love for ourselves.
