the colours colour personalities

We all know what colour looks like. But colour is more than just visual: it affects us on all levels, even if we are unaware of it. Colour psychology is about understanding the effects of colour and using it to create the results we want.

The colours

We use the language of colour to interpret what we see. In our natural environment colour signals to us the changes of season, what foods are safe to eat and warns us of any likely danger.

We have an instinctive sense of colour that is also strongly linked to our emotions. We use colour to express how we feel.

Colour also affects us physically. It is possible to ‘feel’ colours: blind people are particularly sensitive to the energetic vibrations of colour. Red can be strong and energising, yellow uplifting, blue calming, green reassuring just as they are when we see them or close our eyes and imagine ourselves surrounded by them.

The colour personalities

Colour harmony is key to our work at in:colour. There are many variations of every colour and each variation fits into one of the four harmonious colour groups. When the colours of a group come together, they create a colour personality and we match these personalities to the person, place or business we are working with.
